Funeral services for Don Gerald Rash, 83, of Rockdale were held Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2019, at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rock-dale with Dan Johnson of Grace Lutheran Church in Rockdale officiating. Burial was at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Rockdale.

Mr. Rash died Wednesday, Dec. 11, at Baylor Scott & White Hospital in Temple.

He was born in Granbury on July 9, 1936, to Sam Arlin and Thelma (West) Rash.

He graduated from Somerville High School.

Mr. Rash was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving from August 1958 to August 1960.

On July 31, 1958, he married Lois Marie Steinbach at the Lutheran Church in the Gay Hill community near Bren-ham. They have lived in Rock-dale since 1964.

Mr. Rash was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Rockdale, where he was serving on the Board of Education and formerly served as vice president and secretary of the congregation, and he and his wife had served as youth counselors.

At Rockdale Federal Union, he had served on the loan committee and was serving on the nominating committee.

Mr. Rash worked at Alcoa in Rockdale for 36 years, starting in the potrooms and ended his career as a carpenter, retiring in 1999.

He enjoyed his grandchildren, took great pride in his work at Alcoa, and enjoyed taking vacations with his family and later in life traveling with his wife Lois.

Mr. Rash was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Ronald Dean Rash and Rayford Rash; a nephew, Tommy Sanderson; two nieces, Phyllis Silver and Betty Jean Rash; a sister-in-law, Betty Jo Rash; and a brother-in-law, Reuben Reimer.

Survivors are his wife, Lois Rash of Rockdale; a son, Russell Rash of Minerva; two daughters, Teresa Breithaupt of Rockdale, Tracy Lewis and husband Bobby of Teague; a sister, Glennetta Sanderson of San Saba; 10 grandchildren, Lance Lewis, Lacie Edwards and husband Trey, Linsey Lewis, Breann Breithaupt, Bradley Breithaupt, Brande Breithaupt, Justin Breithaupt and family, Layne Rash, Kaitlyn Rash and McKenzie Trembly; his great-grandchildren, Madison Lewis, Ryker Edwards, Lanie Lewis, Rylee Edwards and Brantley Dyer; a sister-in-law, Barbara Reimer of Brenham; and a brother-in-law, Al Steinbach and wife Audrey of Bren-ham; also, numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were Lance Lewis, Charles Rash, Bradley Breithaupt, Donald Parks, Layne Rash and Trey Edwards.

Honorary pallbearers were Lowell Gage, Claude Schluens and Al Steinbach.
