Joy Dell Hurt Reagan, 86, of Rockdale died Monday, Sept. 5, 2022, at Baylor Scott & White Hospital in Temple.

Ser v ic e s a r e s cheduled for 10 a.m. Saturd ay, Sept. 10, at Phillips & Lucke y Funeral Home in Rockdale. Burial will follow at I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Rockdale.

Visitation is set for 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 9, at the funeral home.

Mrs. Reagan was born in DeKalb on Feb. 3, 1936, the daughter and first-born of George W. and Mollie (Maxey) Hurt. She grew up in that Northeast Texas community, attended public schools there and graduated from DeKalb High School in 1953.

Mrs. Reagan enrolled at Tyler Junior College on a nursing scholarship and it was there she met Harold E. “Hal” Reagan, who was a classmate. They were married on March 4, 1955.

She later studied at Lamar Tech (now Lamar University) in Beaumont.

Mrs. Reagan accompanied her husband throughout his newspaper and corporate career with Alcoa, residing in Denton, Tyler, Lubbock, Beaumont, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Port Lavaca and Rockdale.

She was a Realtor for Century 21 Realty in Pittsburgh and Pud Owens Real Estate in Rockdale, and co-owned and operated a flower and gift shop with her daughter, Cheryl Lynn Jones, in Rockdale.

Mrs. Reagan was active in several community organizations including Linwood Acres Garden Club, the Reading Club, Rockdale Country Club and she was a member of several bridge and canasta clubs.

She was an adult leader in Girl Scouts, Campfire Girls and Cub Scouts in Pennsylvania and Texas.

Mrs. Reagan also served as president of the Rockdale Country Club.

She was a member of Murray Street Church of Christ, where she handled all floral arrangements and chaired the food service committee.

Mrs. Reagan was preceded in death by a son, Larry Reagan; her parents; and a brother, Horace Hurt.

Survivors are her husband, Hal; two daughters, Cheryl Lynn Jones and husband Wallace Jones, Cynthia Ann Cates and husband Fred Cates, all of Rockdale; a son, Phillip Craig Reagan and fiancée Stacy of Brenham.

Also, six grandchildren, Amanda Gayle Jackson of Temple, Freddie Allen Cates Jr. of Aurora, Colorado, Tearle Shane Cates of Fredericksburg, April Dawn Leita of Victoria, Jessica Lee Reagan of Rockdale and Austin Eugene Reagan of Brenham; as well as 11 great-grandchildren and two nieces.
