Rev. Charles Haze Cox

Rev. Charles Haze Cox, 95, of Rockdale passed away at his home on Friday, June 7, 2024, in Rockdale.

Rev. Cox was born May 12, 1929, in Birmingham, Alabama, to Cha rle s H. Cox Sr. and Sallie Mann.

He graduated from Birmingham Southern College and also graduated from Yale and Vanderbilt.

After retiring from the Texas Bible Chair at the University of Texas after 30 years, he moved to Rockdale in 1988 and served as minister of First Christian Church in Rockdale until 1994.

Survivors are his wife of 36 years, FayeLee Cox of Rockdale; three sons, Charles S. Cox (Pete) of Dallas, John Cox of Austin, Jake Decker and wife Kayla Decker of Midland; daughter Jenny Melton of Milano; grandchildren Cade Decker, Lexi Voelker (Frank), Sterling King (Ben), McKenna Robertson, Peyton Robertson, Jordan Melton, Rebekah Melton, Kendall Clayton and Mayson Gibbons; and great-grandchildren, Beckett and Denver Voelker, Bo and Remi King, Graycen Davis, Ja’Nyla Green, Doby and Danetria Johnson.

He was preceded in death by his parents, father Charles H. Cox Sr. and mother Sallie Mann Cox; brother Robert Cox; and son-in-law Richard Melton.
