Rev. Max Rosas Sr., 84, of Rockdale died Thursday, Dec. 20, 2018.
A prayer service will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 27, and the funeral service at 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 28. Both services will be at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale. Rev. Itiel Soriano of Waco will officiate.
Rev. Rosas was born June 8, 1934, in McClanahan to Paramon and Paula (Colunga) Rosas.
He attended school in Marlin and worked for an insurance company and loan company in Marlin and Waco until becoming a self-employed salesman.
In 1954 he attended the Latin American Bible Institute in Ysleta.
On Sept. 17, 1955, he married Manuela Davila in Groesbeck. They lived in Marlin until 1984 when he was called to Pastor El Buen Pastor Assembly of God Church in Rockdale. He pastored there from 1984 until he retired in 2013.
Prior to his ministry in Rock-dale, Rev. Rosas served in several leadership roles at Spanish Assembly of God Church in Marlin, such as youth leader, men’s ministry leader, and associate pastor. He also pastored in San Angelo and Bryan for a short period of time.
In 1992, Rev. Rosas became an ordained minister with the Assemblies of God affiliation and that same year he became presbyter of the Waco Section serving in that capacity for many years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Paramon and Paula Rosas; three sisters, Herlinda Rosas, Frances Davila and Mary Davila; and four brothers, Jessie Rosas, Pete Rosas Sr., Joe Rosas and Rev. Mike Rosas.
Survivors are his wife, Manuela Davila Rosas; two daughters, Thelma Rosas Velasquez of Marlin, Gloria Rosas Zapata and husband Pastor Mike of Rockdale; a son, Max Rosas Jr. and wife Yolanda of Rockdale; two sisters, Paula Cuevas of Waco, Pauline Ramirez and husband Al of Hewitt; also, five grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Efren Rosas, Alfredo R. Velasquez Jr. Michael Zapata, Nasario Rosas, Mike Zapata and Sam Rosas.
Honorary pallbearers are Jessica DeLaRosa and Bianca Zapata.
