Stanley
Garland Stanley, 77, of Milano died Saturday, Jan. 20, 2018, in Temple. In accordance with his wishes, he was cremated.
Memorial services will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, April 21, at Milano Civic Center with military honors rendered at 12:30 p.m.
Mr. Stanley was born Oct. 22, 1940, in Joaquin to Roy and Nona Beatrice (Chandler) Stanley.
He spent his life working in newspaper production, working for various newspapers all over the U.S. He loved his job and the fact that he was getting paid for doing what he enjoyed.
Mr. Stanley retired in 2006 and in 2008 he moved to Milano.
He served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1958 to 1961 in the 7th Marine Regiment.
He enjoyed working outside, watching his goats play, and talking to people, finding out where they had been and where they were heading.
Mr. Stanley was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Nona Beatrice Stanley; two brothers, Charlie and Baxter Laughlin; and two sisters, Doris Breaux and Marie Amimo.
Survivors are a son, William Stanley of Houston; three daughters, Dana Winslett and husband Troy of Conroe, Teresa McComb of Webster, Lesley Sootoo and husband Jonny of Milano; and his best friend, Brian Caldwell of California; also, 17 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.
