Evelyn Marie Stork, 88, of Rockdale passed away on Saturday, Oct. 5, 2024, at Baylor Scott & White in Temple.

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 10, at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale with Pastor Patrick Welton officiating. Burial will follow at I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Rockdale.

A visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Evelyn was born in Rockdale on Sept. 3, 1936, to Walter and Hilda (Dornhoefer) Gerstenberger.

She attended Gay Hill School and graduated from Rockdale High School in 1954, then went on to Durham Business School in Austin.

On July 13, 1957, she married Mondrow Stork at Peace Lutheran Church in Rockdale.

She went to work at Alcoa for a few years until Stanley was born and she became a homemaker.

She loved gardening, yard work, and all things outdoors, including waving at neighbors that passed by. She cared for all animals especially her cows. She enjoyed walking the pastures until her later years and then driving her gator.

She adored her boys and liked to spend time with extended family.

Evelyn loved her blue 1978 suburban so much that it became a local icon in Rockdale parking lots. She received many compliments and offers to buy the suburban, but she would always smile and say “not for sale.”

She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Hilda Gerstenberger; sistersin- law and brothers-in-law, June Gerstenberger, Elmer and Dorothy Eckert, FC and Doris Junek, Jerry and OnaFay Skrhak, and Hank and Leola Sladek.

Evelyn is survived by her husband of 67 years, Mondrow Stork; sons Stanley (Sherry) Stork and Stacey “Gene” Stork; brother Earl Gerstenberger; sister-in-law Florence (Bob) Wilson; grandchildren LeAnna (Jerry) Lewis and Ryan (Katherine) Lawler; plus numerous nieces, nephews and special friends.

Serving as pallbearers are nephews Brian Gerstenberger, Calvin Junek, Fred Eckert, Craig Sladek, Jerry Skrhak Jr. and Heath Downey.

Honorary pallbearers are her remaining nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Evelyn’s name to the charity of your choice.
