PLANO—Dorothy Jean Terry, 83, of Plano died Thursday, May 17, 2018, in Plano.

A home-going celebration was held Friday, May 25, at Greater New Birth Baptist Church in Plano. Interment followed later Friday at New Oaklawn Cemetery in Rock-dale.

Mrs. Terry was born in Tracy on Sept. 13, 1934, to J.D. Terry Sr. and Maxine Smith Terry of Rockdale.

She was a 1954 graduate of Aycock High School, where she played in the school band and on the girl’s basketball team.

She professed Christ at an early age and joined Rising Star Baptist Church of Tracy (which later moved to Rockdale). On June 1, 1971, she joined Greater New Birth Baptist Church of Plano, where her brother, Rev. Charles Terry Sr., is pastor. She was a faithful and dedicated member until her health failed.

Mrs. Terry was active and enjoyed walking, especially her niece and nephew to school every day.

She was preceded in death by her parents, J.D. Terry Sr. and Maxine Smith Terry; a sister, Eula Mae Johnson; a brother, Johnny E. Terry; and husbands Walter Clark and Bobby Joe Hop-son.

Survivors are two sisters, Sara Terry and Barbara Ann Gad-dis; and two brothers, J.D. Terry Jr. and Charles R. Terry Sr.; also, a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
