Throckmorton
The funeral service for Ethel Inez (Lorenz) Throckmorton was held Sunday, Nov. 5, 2023, at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale with Dan Johnson officiating. Committal followed at Giddings Memorial Park Cemetery in Giddings.
Ethel was born Nov. 5, 1930, in Giddings, Lee County, to parents Robert Reinhold and Clara Hulda Mathilda (Hielscher) Lorenz.
She was baptized on Nov. 16, 1930, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Giddings and confirmed in the Christian faith on April 2, 1944, at Immanuel Lutheran Church. Her confirmation verse was Isaiah 41:10: “Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.”
Ethel received her primary education at Immanuel Lutheran School in Giddings and St Michael’s Lutheran School in Winchester. She graduated from Giddings High School in 1948.
Ethel was united in marriage with James Leslie (Jim) Throckmorton on Nov. 19, 1950, at Immanuel Lutheran Church. They were blessed with three children, James, Judy and Jerry.
Jim and Ethel moved to Rockdale in November 1956 where Jim was employed with Alcoa. The family became members of Grace Lutheran Church in Rockdale that same year.
Ethel was a founding member of the Milam Adult Resource Center (MARC) and served on the MARC board for many years.
Ethel passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 1, following a long battle with Alzheimer’s.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Robert and Leroy Lorenz; and her son, Jerry, Rockdale’s #1 Tiger fan.
In addition to her husband, Ethel is survived by her son James and his wife, Dale, and her daughter, Judy and her husband, Jim.
She is also survived by grandchildren Laura Little, Jimmy Melcher and his wife, Sara, Jason Throckmorton and Jeremy Throckmorton; 11 great-grandchildren; her sister-in-law, Shirley Lorenz; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Serving as pallbearers were Dennis Bass, Timothy Hartfield, Robert Lorenz, Jimmy Melcher, Jason Throckmorton and Jeremy Throckmorton.
The family would like to thank our many loved ones and friends who prayed, visited, provided meals and shared many memories throughout Ethel’s illness. You have made this journey much more bearable.
