Paul Otto Voelkel of Hallettsville died Thursday, Dec. 22, 2023.

Services will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, Jan. 5, 2024 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Hallettsville wi t h F at her Michael Rother officiating.

A rosary will be held at 1:30 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Hallettsville with Sister Stephana Marbach officiating.

Mr. Voelkel was born March 18, 1939, in Hallettsville to Marie Antonia (Brogger) and Arthur Paul Voelkel.

He married Theresa Elizabeth Hemmi on Jan. 15, 1961, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Hallettsville.

Mr. Voelkel attended Sacred Heart School and Hallettsville High School, graduating in 1958.

He worked for Goedecke’s Cotton Co. in Hallettsville.

He moved to Rockdale in March 1965 when he went to work for Alcoa. After 39 years, he retired from Alcoa in 2002 and they returned to Hallettsville in 2003.

In Rockdale, he was an active and dedicated member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. He helped start the Rockdale Knights of Columbus Council in 1977 and was named Rockdale Knight of the Year in 1986.

Mr. Voelkel was often found in his vegetable garden. He enjoyed going to local lakes for boating, camping and spending time with family and friends. His favorite time in life was hunting with his son and grandsons and listening to polka and waltz music.

Mr. Voelkel was a dedicated Catholic, husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.

He was preceded in death by his parents; stepfahter Alfred (Fritz) Holy; and brother James Ervin Voelkel.

Survivors are his wife of 62 years, Theresa (Hemmi) Voelkel; sons Kevin Paul Voelkel and wife Cathy of New Braunfels, and Kelly Arthur Voelkel of Houston; a sister, Linda Kay Ward and husband David of Austin; and sister-in-law Cathy Lou Voelkel of Cuero; also, four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
