Wes Corder,
Funeral Mass for Wes Corder, 87, of Rockdale will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 16, 2019, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Rockdale with Rev. Pedro Castillo and Deacon Gus Coelho officiating. Burial will follow at Hugh Wilson Cemetery in Tangle-wood.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 15, with rosary at 7 p.m. at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rock-dale.
Mr. Corder died Monday, May 13, at S.P.J.S.T. Nursing Home in Taylor.
He was born in Lexington on June 10, 1931, to Eugene and Anna (Pounders) Corder.
Mr. Corder attended school in Lexington and graduated from Milano High School.
On Oct. 6, 1951, he married Beatrice Newchurch in Cameron.
From 1952 to 1954, he served in the U.S. Army as a sergeant. After his honorable discharge, the Corders lived in Houston, where he worked with American Can Co. as their shipping and receiving manager, retiring in 1979 after 30 years.
They moved to Rockdale in 1980, where Mr. Corder was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus Council No. 7014 and the Lions Club.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Ibra Corder; and four sisters, Lucille Wingert, Lula Mae Perkins, Ruby Woods and Loree Ely.
Survivors are his wife, Beatrice Corder of Rockdale, and a number of nieces and nephews.
Honorary pallbearers are Leland Wingert, Wesley Wingert, Mark Skubal, Jacob Skubal, Roy Warrick and Gerry Keller.
