It is with great sadness that the family of Mauricia M. Zapata, 93, of Rockdale announce her passing Friday, Aug. 23, 2024, at Temple Baylor S c ot t & White Hospital, surrounded by family.

Memo r i al ser vices are scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 3, 2024. Visitation will be from 6-7 p.m., followed by Rosary from 7 to 8 p.m. at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale.

Memorial services are also planned at 10 a.m. Wednesday Sept. 4, at Rockdale St. Joseph’s Catholic Church with burial to follow.

Mrs. Zapata was born Sept. 22, 1930, in Rockdale to Lino Montelongo and Teresa Castillo.

She was a Rockdale resident and her place of worship was Rockdale St. Joseph’s Catholic Church.

She married Natividad Zapata on June 11, 1948, and to this union 11 children were born.

Mrs. Zapata worked for Richards Memorial Hospital for many years and was a housewife after retirement.

She was preceded in death by a son, Ruben Zapata; her husband, Natividad Reyes Zapata; her parents, Theresa Lopez and husband Canuto; brothers Catarino Montelongo, Pete Lopez and Joe Lopez; and sister Cirila L. Gonzales (Carol).

Survivors are her children, Rosa Nunez and husband Eusebio, Maurilio Zapata and wife Dora, Marcus Zapata and wife Janie, Virigina Kelsy and husband Terrance, Robert Zapata, Alice Zapata, Theresa Grimaldo and husband Joe, Irene Lopez, Ricardo (Ricky) Zapata, Feliciano (Felix) Zapata; and a brother, Paul Lopez; also, 22 grandchildren, 61 great-grandchildren and 16 great-great-grandchildren.
