WHAT A PHOTO!—No, The Reporter didn’t steal this photo of a bald eagle in flight at close range from The National Geographic. In fact, we’re not convinced that hallowed magazine has ever run a comparable photo of our national symbol. This one is the work of Reporter reader April Frei Vargas, who snapped it while driving north of Rockdale, near Valhalla Farms. She sent it to us. Vargas said she spotted the magnificent bird and turned around to get this photo. “It was an awesome experience seeing it with my two girls,” she said. “It’s a memory that will be with me forever.”
