A gathering of 22 people met on Sept. 12 at the historic Kay Theater. Among those in attendance were the Milam County District Attorney Bill Torrey, along with Milam County Judge-elect Bill Whitmire and Pct. 2 Commissioner- elect James Denman. Deedra Baker, Chief Network Services Officer with Texas CASA was also in attendance to answer questions.
The Reporter doesn’t know if anyone else in Milam County has met the Queen of England, but we’re thinking probably not. Milam County’s First Lady, Lynn Forney Young, wife of Judge Steve Young, who was President General of the Daughters of the American Revolution at the time, met the Queen in April of 2015, and this is a blog entry that she wrote for the DAR website. At Monday night’s RISD School Board meeting, Assistant Superintendent Pam Kaufmann, delivered the Back-to-School Update and a report covering enrollment, athletic and band participation numbers, and the attendance initiative. Director of Communications Rebecca King, reported on the district’s Communication Department. The district had two large projects this past summer that launched for the new school year. A new website was developed and a new parent communication platform, ParentSquare, was implemented.
With September being National Attendance Awareness Month, Rockdale ISD is focusing on its goal of achieving a 96 percent attendance rate across all campuses for the current school year. Achieving this goal will require all stakeholders to work together. It is essential to understand that attendance matters for success in school and life, and absences can easily add to academic decline.
