MDD board fills offices

The Rockdale MDD board, meeting the first time since a judge shut it down last month, hired the Central Texas Council of Governments at a special meeting Monday night to be the interim manager for the Municipal Development District.

Traffic was slowing down last week on U.S. 79 as crews for Texas Department of Transportation’s contractor, Big Creek Construction, worked on extending and placing new end treatments for perpendicular drainage structures. A department spokesman said the work will be in various locations along the stretch of highway in town throughout the length of the project, and will take place at various times during the course of the 18-24 month project which started the first week of December. Milam senator files bill in advance of opening day

Sen. Charles Schwertner, R-Georgetown, has filed legislation to grant the state’s Office of Public Insurance Counsel authority to better represent the interests of Texas consumers in matters related to health insurance networks. Senate Bill 245 would allow OPIC to be more engaged in the Texas Department of Insurance’s process for determining the adequacy of health insurance networks, increasing transparency and quality of care for consumers.
