The year was 1669 when Dutch painter Rembrandt first put paint to canvas in creating what is regarded by many as the greatest picture ever painted. The painting, aptly called “The Prodigal Son,” depicts the well known parable in the Gospel of Luke. For Rembrandt though, this was much more than paint on a canvas or light and shadow.
Summer Break is upon us. Two weeks of school left and the kids will be home. Several local churches have youth programs to keep them busy and I have already seen some congregations preparing for Vacation Bible School for the younger kids. Some of my favorite summer childhood memories are from Vacation Bible School. Get your kids involved, not only will they have fun, they will learn lessons they will always remember.
The Apostle Paul tells us in Romans 15:13, “I pray that God, who gives hope, will bless you with complete happiness and peace because of your faith. And may the power of the Holy Spirit fill you with hope.”

Trade Day was held every second Monday in Rockdale, where provisions were made for the sale, exchange or barter of any article farmers had to dispose of.
